The roof is unquestionably the centerpiece of this custom 12′ Octagon Gazebo delivered to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2025. Featuring a striking copper roof, copper-roofed cupola, and decorative scalloped cornice, the gazebo takes the familiar octagonal design in a more distinctive architectural direction.
At 12 feet across, the structure provides a generous covered area for outdoor seating, dining, or entertaining. The traditional eight-sided layout keeps the interior open to the surrounding property while creating a defined destination within the landscape.
Rather than using conventional asphalt shingles, this project was upgraded with a copper roof. The metal surface immediately gives the gazebo a more refined appearance and creates a roofline designed to become even more distinctive as the copper naturally ages. Over time, its finish can gradually develop the characteristic patina associated with exposed copper.
That premium roofing material continues onto the cupola, creating a coordinated appearance from the main roof all the way to the gazebo’s highest point. Matching the cupola roof to the larger copper surface makes the upper portion of the structure feel intentional and cohesive rather than treating the cupola as a separate decorative addition.
Along the eaves, a scalloped cornice introduces a softer ornamental element beneath the metal roof. The repeating curved detail provides contrast against the strong lines of the octagonal structure and gives the gazebo a more traditional, decorative character when viewed from the yard.
The combination of the cornice and copper creates much of this project’s personality. From a distance, the metal roof provides the strongest visual statement; up close, the scalloped detailing and cupola add the craftsmanship and architectural interest expected from a custom gazebo.
