Natural materials were at the center of this 11′ Cedar Octagon Gazebo, professionally delivered and assembled in Southampton, New York, in 2025. Built from #1 Western Red Cedar and topped with a genuine cedar shake roof, the gazebo was designed to complement an established outdoor setting with a warm, traditional appearance that will continue to develop character as the wood ages.
Unlike a kit intended for homeowner assembly, this project included on-site installation on the customer’s existing concrete pad or prepared footers. This allowed the gazebo to become a permanent part of the outdoor living area while taking advantage of the foundation already in place at the property.
The use of Western Red Cedar gives the structure much of its visual appeal. Known for its distinctive grain and natural color variation, cedar works particularly well for traditional outdoor structures where the wood itself is intended to remain a prominent design feature. Standard railings and braces keep the octagonal perimeter open and classic rather than overly decorative.
Above the seating area, the gazebo features cedar tongue-and-groove boards on the interior ceiling. The finished wood ceiling adds another layer of detail to the view from inside the structure and creates a warm overhead surface that complements the cedar posts and railings surrounding the space.
The exterior roof continues the natural material palette with cedar shake roofing. A stained sealant was applied to the cedar shakes, helping protect the roofing material while retaining the texture and variation that give a shake roof its distinctive appearance. As the roof ages, the individual cedar shingles will remain an important part of the gazebo’s traditional character.
A cupola rises from the center of the octagonal roof, providing a classic finishing element and making the gazebo easily recognizable as a focal point from elsewhere on the property. Its proportions complement the 11-foot structure without overwhelming the natural simplicity of the cedar construction.
For the connections and fastening points throughout the gazebo, stainless steel hardware was selected for dependable outdoor performance and corrosion resistance. This is particularly valuable for an exterior structure where hardware is continually exposed to moisture and seasonal weather conditions.
