Gazebo Kit in Manhattan, KS
SCREENED CEDAR OCTAGON GAZEBO KIT
For this 12′ Cedar Octagon Gazebo Kit delivered to Manhattan, Kansas, in 2025, the focus was on making a traditional open-air gazebo more comfortable for everyday use. A complete screen package, dedicated screen door, and screening beneath the floor decking create a protected gathering area while preserving the natural appearance and airflow of a classic cedar gazebo.
With a 12-foot octagonal footprint, the gazebo offers plenty of room for a dining set, outdoor furniture, or a combination of seating arrangements. The eight-sided layout provides views in multiple directions, while the screened enclosure allows the homeowner to enjoy those surroundings with added protection from mosquitoes and other insects.
The gazebo was handcrafted from appearance-grade Western cedar, chosen for its attractive grain and natural variation. A stained finish was applied to the entire cedar structure, enriching the wood tones and creating a cohesive appearance across the posts, railings, braces, decking, and exposed roof components. Clean straight face boards provide a simple finished edge around the roofline.
The screening extends beyond the walls. In addition to screened openings around the gazebo and one screen entry door, screening was installed beneath the floor decking. This additional detail helps close off another potential entry point for insects and creates a more completely protected outdoor environment.
Beneath the finished cedar floor, 2×6 pressure-treated joists provide the structural support needed for long-term outdoor use. The walking surface is finished with 1×6 cedar floor decking, keeping natural wood visible throughout the interior and coordinating with the stained framework surrounding it.
Overhead, the roof has a traditional profile finished with 25-year asphalt shingles and a cupola at the peak. From inside the screened enclosure, the construction becomes part of the finished appearance: 2× rafters and 1×6 tongue-and-groove roof decking create an exposed wood ceiling that adds warmth and craftsmanship above the seating area.
Eight 4×4 posts form the primary support points, with the floor carefully notched to receive each post. Standard cedar railings and braces complete the perimeter without competing visually with the screening or natural wood construction. The result is a gazebo that remains recognizably traditional while gaining much of the comfort associated with a screened outdoor room.
All components and required gazebo installation hardware were prepared for delivery to Manhattan as a prefabricated kit for assembly at the customer’s location. By combining stained Western cedar with full screening, a screened floor, finished wood ceiling, and traditional cupola, this project creates an inviting backyard space designed for enjoying Kansas summers with fewer unwanted visitors.
