SCREENED CEDAR OCTAGON GAZEBO KIT
Designed to make outdoor living more comfortable during Michigan’s warmer months, this custom 14′ Cedar Octagon Gazebo Kit was delivered to Marquette, Michigan, in 2026. The gazebo pairs traditional cedar construction with a full screen package and screening beneath the floor, creating a protected outdoor gathering space while preserving the airflow and views that make an open-air gazebo appealing.
At 14 feet across, the octagonal layout provides a spacious interior with plenty of room for dining furniture, lounge seating, or a combination of both. The larger footprint makes the gazebo suitable for family gatherings and entertaining while its eight-sided shape maintains the classic appearance associated with a traditional garden gazebo.
The structure was handcrafted from #1 Appearance Grade Cedar, giving the posts, railings, braces, flooring, and other exposed components the warmth and natural variation of real wood. A semi-transparent stain was applied to the cedar, enriching its color while allowing the grain and individual characteristics of the lumber to remain visible.
A defining feature of this project is the full screen package. Screening encloses the openings around the gazebo, creating a barrier against mosquitoes and other flying insects without eliminating natural ventilation. For a property in northern Michigan, this upgrade can make the gazebo considerably more comfortable during summer evenings.
Protection extends beneath the structure as well. Screening was installed below the floor decking, helping prevent insects from entering through gaps between the floorboards. Combining perimeter screens with a screened floor creates a more complete enclosure than simply adding screens between the posts.
The gazebo floor is constructed over 2×6 pressure-treated floor joists and finished with 1×6 cedar decking, continuing the natural wood appearance underfoot. For easier assembly, the floor was prefabricated in eight pie-shaped sections, with each section corresponding to one side of the octagon.
At the corners, the floor sections are notched to receive the eight 4×4 cedar posts that support the roof. This prefabricated approach allows much of the more complex octagonal floor geometry to be completed before the gazebo arrives at the property.
Around the perimeter, 32-inch-high bottom railings define the lower portion of the structure, while half-moon braces and top rails introduce decorative detail above. These elements preserve the familiar character of a cedar gazebo even with the addition of the screen enclosure.
A standard cupola crowns the octagonal roof, providing the traditional finishing feature included on Atlantic Outdoors’ octagon gazebo designs. Galvanized fasteners and hardware were supplied throughout the kit for durable exterior connections.
Because this gazebo includes a structural floor, it is designed for installation over a properly prepared 6-inch gravel or stone base. A level, compacted foundation provides support beneath the eight floor sections and helps create a stable base for the completed structure.
