Gazebo Kit in Potomac, MD

SCREENED CEDAR PAGODA GAZEBO KIT

Designed as a place to enjoy the outdoors while staying protected from insects, this custom 10′ Cedar Octagon Gazebo Kit was delivered to Potomac, Maryland. The project takes the traditional cedar gazebo a step further with a full screen package, screened floor, and double pagoda roof, creating a more comfortable and enclosed backyard retreat without losing the open-air character of a classic gazebo.

The gazebo’s double pagoda roof immediately sets it apart. Its two-tiered design creates a taller, more decorative roofline, finished with a traditional cupola at the peak. 25-year asphalt shingles provide the finished roofing surface, while the underside features 2× rafters and 1×6 tongue-and-groove roof decking, giving the interior a warm, finished wood ceiling.

A complete screen package surrounds the gazebo and includes a dedicated screen door for easy entry. Screening was also incorporated into the floor system, helping prevent insects from entering from underneath the structure. Together, these features make the gazebo particularly useful during warm summer evenings when mosquitoes and other insects might otherwise limit time spent outdoors.

Throughout the structure, appearance-grade Western cedar provides the natural character of a traditional wood gazebo. Straight-face cedar boards create clean lines, while the entire cedar structure received a stained finish to bring out the grain and variation of the wood. Substantial 4×4 posts support the gazebo, with the floor specifically notched to receive the posts and create secure structural connections.

Underfoot, 2×6 pressure-treated floor joists provide a durable structural base, while 1×6 cedar floor decking creates the finished walking surface. Using cedar decking carries the natural wood appearance throughout the gazebo, from the floor and railings to the exposed roof structure overhead.

Rather than relying heavily on ornamental upgrades, standard cedar railings and braces maintain a balanced traditional appearance around the octagonal perimeter. The simplicity of these components allows the double pagoda roof, screened enclosure, and natural cedar construction to become the primary visual features of the design.

The gazebo was prepared as a prefabricated kit for delivery to Potomac, with installation hardware included for assembly at the customer’s property. By combining the flexibility of kit construction with upgraded screening and a distinctive pagoda roof, this project offers a practical alternative to a fully enclosed outdoor room while still providing shade, airflow, and protection from insects.

With its stained Western cedar, cedar flooring, finished tongue-and-groove ceiling, full screening, and dramatic two-tier roof, this Potomac project showcases a more refined version of the traditional backyard gazebo—one designed to be enjoyed comfortably throughout much of the year.
