CEDAR GREENHOUSE WITH STORAGE SHED
Part greenhouse and part garden storage building, this custom 10′ x 18′ Cedar A-Frame Greenhouse and Shed Kit was designed to provide two distinct functions within one cohesive structure. Delivered to Sebastopol, California, the project combines a bright polycarbonate growing area with a dedicated 5′ x 10′ cedar storage shed, allowing plants, tools, pots, and gardening supplies to remain organized in one convenient backyard destination.
At 18 feet long, this greenhouse offers considerably more room than many compact residential models. A portion of the footprint is dedicated to the enclosed storage area, while the remaining space provides a light-filled environment for growing seedlings, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other plants.
The structure was crafted from Western Red Cedar and intentionally ordered without stain. Rather than altering the wood with a colored finish, the natural cedar remains visible across the exterior, showcasing its original grain, color variation, and texture.
The greenhouse portion uses twin polycarbonate panels across both the walls and roof. These translucent panels bring natural light into the growing area while creating an enclosed environment that provides plants with greater protection than an exposed outdoor garden.
Inside, two built-in shelves run along the greenhouse wall, creating dedicated space for smaller pots, seed trays, and young plants. The shelving helps take advantage of vertical space while leaving the center of the greenhouse available for larger containers and comfortable movement.
Ventilation is supported by a 12-inch exhaust fan equipped with a small plug-in cord. Positioned to help remove accumulated warm air, the fan provides an important feature for managing temperatures inside the enclosed greenhouse during warmer conditions.
At one end of the structure is a dedicated 5′ x 10′ storage shed finished with cedar tongue-and-groove exterior boards. This enclosed section gives the homeowner approximately 50 square feet of space for garden tools, bags of soil, watering equipment, pots, seasonal supplies, and other items that are useful to keep close to the growing area.
Unlike the greenhouse portion, the shed incorporates a raised structural floor. 2×6 floor joists with 5/8-inch flooringcreate a solid storage surface designed to keep equipment organized and separated from the ground below.
A Burnished Slate metal roof covers the shed area, providing a darker architectural accent against the natural Western Red Cedar. The solid metal roofing also visually distinguishes the storage portion from the translucent polycarbonate roof over the greenhouse.
The structure incorporates three man doors for convenient access along with two 24″ x 36″ shed windows positioned on the sides. These openings make it easier to access the different functional areas while bringing additional natural light into the enclosed storage section.
Prepared as a prefabricated greenhouse and shed kit, the components were fabricated before being shipped across the country to Sebastopol for final assembly. The kit format allows a larger custom garden structure to be transported efficiently while retaining its integrated greenhouse and storage layout.
With its 18-foot overall length, 5′ x 10′ storage room, natural unstained cedar, Burnished Slate roof, built-in shelving, and powered exhaust fan, this project provides much more than a place to grow plants. It creates an organized gardening center where growing, storage, and everyday garden work can all take place within one thoughtfully designed structure.
