WHITE VINYL HIP ROOF PAVILION
A little extra space can make a meaningful difference in an outdoor living area. Originally planned as a 12′ x 14′ pavilion, this custom project was upgraded to a 12′ x 16′ White Vinyl Hip Roof Pavilion before being delivered and professionally installed in Simsbury, Connecticut. The larger footprint provides additional room for entertaining while maintaining a clean four-post layout and balanced hip-roof profile.
The finished 12′ x 16′ footprint provides approximately 192 square feet of covered space, adding 24 square feet compared with the originally proposed design. That additional length gives the homeowner more flexibility for arranging a dining table, lounge furniture, grill station, or other outdoor amenities beneath the roof.
Rather than adding intermediate columns, the pavilion maintains an open four-post configuration. Substantial 7×7 structural posts support the roof, with each post finished inside an upgraded 8×8 white vinyl sleeve. The larger columns give the pavilion a more substantial appearance while keeping the perimeter open and easy to navigate.
Decorative post trim finishes the bases of the columns, while anchor brackets secure the structure to the customer’s prepared installation surface. The combination creates a clean transition between the white vinyl supports and the patio or foundation below.
The pavilion’s hip roof slopes upward from all four sides, giving the structure a symmetrical appearance that works especially well for a freestanding backyard pavilion. Because there is no traditional gable end, the roof maintains a consistent profile when viewed from different areas of the property.
Inside, the pavilion takes on a warmer character. 2× rafters and 1×6 tongue-and-groove roof decking remain visible from underneath rather than being concealed behind a vinyl ceiling. Both the roof decking and exposed rafters were stained, highlighting the natural wood grain and creating a strong contrast against the crisp white exterior framework.
This combination of finishes gives the structure two distinct personalities. From outside, the white vinyl materialscreate a bright, polished, low-maintenance appearance. From beneath the pavilion, the stained wood ceiling introduces warmth and texture, helping the covered patio feel more like a finished outdoor room.
The roof is completed with asphalt shingles, providing dependable weather protection over the newly expanded outdoor area. The solid roof allows the pavilion to provide significantly more shelter than an open pergola, making the patio more usable during direct sun and passing rain.
Atlantic Outdoors handled both delivery and professional installation at the Simsbury jobsite, allowing the custom 12′ x 16′ structure to be assembled and secured at its permanent location.
By increasing the original pavilion from 12′ x 14′ to 12′ x 16′, the homeowner gained additional usable space without dramatically changing the scale of the structure. The finished combination of oversized 8×8 vinyl-wrapped columns, a four-sided hip roof, and stained tongue-and-groove interior creates a comfortable and polished outdoor gathering area designed to complement the surrounding property.
