ALMOND PAVILION WITH CEDAR WALL
Warm Almond vinyl and stained cedar give this custom 18′ x 18′ Gable Roof Pavilion a noticeably different character from a traditional white vinyl structure. Designed as a DIY kit for a Maryland property, the pavilion combines a low-maintenance exterior with an extensive natural wood interior, including a stained cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling and a 12-foot cedar feature wall.
The square 18′ x 18′ footprint provides approximately 324 square feet of covered outdoor living space. With only four primary support posts around the perimeter, the interior remains largely unobstructed, creating plenty of flexibility for an outdoor kitchen, dining area, lounge furniture, or entertaining space.
Those four structural posts are finished with substantial 10×10 Almond vinyl wraps, giving the pavilion a heavier architectural presence than structures using conventional post sizes. The softer Almond color offers an alternative to bright white vinyl and pairs particularly well with the natural cedar finishes incorporated throughout the interior.
One of the most distinctive elements is the custom 12-foot wall section. Cedar tongue-and-groove boards finish both the front and back faces of the wall, with the wood receiving a Cedar-colored stain. This creates an attractive architectural backdrop beneath the pavilion while adding privacy and helping define the covered space as a true outdoor room.
Natural wood continues across the entire roof interior. Rather than using a vinyl ceiling, this project incorporates cedar tongue-and-groove material with a Cedar stain, introducing warmth overhead and creating a dramatic contrast against the Almond posts and exterior framework. The combination allows the pavilion to maintain a clean vinyl appearance from outside while feeling much warmer and more wood-focused from underneath.
The pavilion’s 6/12 gable roof provides comfortable height through the center of the structure without creating an overly steep profile. 2×6 rafters with roof sheathing form the roof system, which is finished on the exterior with Rustic Black 25-year asphalt shingles. The dark roofing creates a strong contrast against the lighter Almond vinyl below.
Because of the pavilion’s 18-foot spans, the header system required significantly heavier construction. Depending on the final engineering specifications, the structure uses triple 2×10 or triple 2×12 headers, providing the support necessary to maintain the wide openings between the four posts.
Engineered drawings were included as part of the project to determine the final structural requirements. Because the engineer required larger beams than initially anticipated, final component sizes and pricing were subject to adjustment once the completed drawings were received and reviewed.
Prepared as a DIY pavilion kit, the structure was designed for delivery to Maryland and final assembly at the customer’s prepared site. Combining the efficiency of prefabricated construction with custom structural engineering allowed the customer to receive a pavilion tailored to both the desired appearance and the requirements of the specific installation.
What makes this project stand out is the balance between its two primary finishes. The Almond vinyl exterior and oversized post wraps create a polished, low-maintenance shell, while the stained cedar ceiling and double-sided cedar feature wall bring natural warmth into the interior. Together, they create a substantial 18′ x 18′ outdoor room with a more customized and residential feel than a standard open pavilion.
